The history of rooibos tea began more than 300 years ago in the Cedarberg mountain region of South Africa, where indigenous Khoisan bushmen discovered its leaves were an effective cure for many ailments. Because of its smooth, mild taste and its soothing aroma. It was also made into a tea purely for enjoyment and villages regularly harvested wild rooibos from the mountains. Today, rooibos leaves are still bruised with  mallets, fermented into heaps, then laid out to completely absorb the energy of the hot summer sun.

Rooibos is graded according to its colour, flavour and cut length, with the highest grade labeled as "Super grade". At Tea Voyage we source only Rooibos Tea that is organic and Super grade. Pristine growing conditions and a high grade of leaves create a combination which makes our rooibos distinctively smoother without a hint of bitterness.
